Build inclusive communities one thank you at a time

All humans crave connection. We all want to feel like we belong—like we are seen and valued for who we are. When we feel appreciated—and when we share our appreciation with others in return—we create positive connections, positive relationships, and positive communities. That’s what GiveThx does.

GiveThx is a digital program that strengthens student wellbeing and social-emotional skills through gratitude. Students and staff use digital thank you notes and research-backed lessons to nurture mental health and improve academic success. GiveThx creates positive relationships and inclusive school communities where all students feel safe, valued, and connected.

Developed for and by students in high-needs classrooms, GiveThx hinges on positive peer-to-peer engagement. Unlike social media platforms—where everyone can see who is being included, excluded, and bullied on the digital playground—GiveThx’s private one-on-one messages allow students to build community through confidential notes of appreciation. While both students and teachers participate, the teacher dashboard monitors student engagement and connection and provides an ability to coach students to improve classroom culture and inclusivity.

GiveThx’s three-pronged program is grounded in safety, equity, and inclusion. Our unique approach:

  1. Builds staff and student wellbeing: GiveThx strengthens staff and student wellbeing by establishing routines that facilitate a sense of belonging and reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety.
  2. Strengthens school culture and climate. GiveThx creates a healthy and positive school culture by building community and fostering connections.
  3. Improves academic performance and outcomes. GiveThx increases student performance by supporting metacognitive skill development and mindsets that are critical for academic success.
